Horror movie poster, re-imagined

A graphic design project for class. Objective is to redesign the movie poster for the 1977 Italian horror/"fairytale gone wrong" film, Suspira.

Key art has to utilize screenshots or any imagery from the movie, and logo and billing is made from scratch.

Sketching

Ideas sketched on paper. Created two rough thumbnails, and went with the second design.

I went with the second design to play off of the movie's "fairytale gone wrong" premise, as that design could incorporate more fantastical and mysterious elements to add to the fairytale feeling.

Key art

Key art for the poster was taken from movie screenshots, then heavily manipulated on Photoshop.

While I do not want to spoil the movie, the key art consists of the main character entering a mysterious door next to wall mural imagery that is associated with that door in the movie.

Final look

This is the result after putting together the key art, logo, billing, and also adding a small phrase to give some movie insight. The result is a horror and fairytale hybrid!

I tweaked the initial chosen logo for the poster and made the 'R' backwards to give the viewer a sense that something about the movie may be off.
